In-person Counseling in Fort Collins and online counseling in Colorado for Women in Mid-Life & Perimenopause
You’ve arrived to the middle of your life and you just don’t feel like yourself. You can’t really pinpoint when this started, but it’s been slowly creeping in.
You consistently wake at 2:00am. This is when your mind begins its restless spinning. Past conversations. Tomorrow’s responsibilities. There is a vague sense that something is wrong and you cannot name it. You watch the clock change numbers, hoping morning will bring relief.
When you get out of bed, you drag yourself into readying yourself for your day. Even ten minutes feels like forever while the coffee brews.
This day feels like every other day—but also like someone else’s life. And somewhere in the middle of it all, you catch yourself wondering:
How did I end up here?
You start to realize that you’ve spent most of your life taking care of other people. When you really think about it, you can’t remember a time when you weren’t responsible for someone else’s needs.
Now your days move through a familiar and mundane routine. You shower, dress, eat, and work—almost automatically. The necessary things get done but the days blur together.
Sometimes emotions break through.
When they do, they swing wildly—from intense anger, to embarrassing sadness, to a strange numbness. And when the numbness hits, your heart starts pounding in your chest and suddenly it feels like you can’t breathe.
It never used to be like this.
You used to be able to swallow your emotions, push through, accomplish what needed to be done, and take care of everyone else. Now your whole body seems to buzz as you try to get through the day, and the source of that buzzing is a frightening unknown.
So you walk around with a practiced smile, hoping no one asks too many questions about how you’re doing. Because deep down, you know you’re faking it. It feels like your insides have somehow been turned outward—raw and exposed.
You’re afraid you’re stuck here, without knowing how you got here or what’s even wrong with you.
Right now it’s hard to imagine a day where you might feel like yourself again. Part of you longs to get back to who you used to be, at the same time you’re not even sure who that person really was.
So how are you supposed to find yourself now?
My name is Megan, I am a counselor in Fort Collins, and this is exactly what I am here for!
Megan Silberhorn, counselor in Fort Collins, specializing in perimenopausal support for women in mid-life.
Most of my clients come in with crippling anxiety and uncontrollable emotions. Then, on the other side of that is high reactivity and a deep sense of “I don’t care” toward the things that used to matter so much. This alternating and conflicting experience of big emotions and none at all is uncomfortable, especially when you can't control it. The mid-life female attitude can be "unpalatable" for the rest of the world, and even ourselves. I am here for it.
I know it can feel vulnerable to share the real stuff out loud because it looks really "unhealthy" and at the same time in therapy with me, you will discover how to release all the stored up emotions and narratives that did not have a voice because you needed to care and be available to others.
Through therapy, you’ll learn to distinguish what is hormonal and what is situational. Together we will find the tools and skills that work for your unique experience of life. If we discover there is trauma underneath all of this, I am trained in EMDR. I can help you reprocess old memories that may have come to the forefront. We’ll meet weekly to set a foundation for you to find yourself and enter this new era of life with more clarity and confidence.

The length of therapy looks different for everyone, and ultimately you are in the driver's seat. We will move at a pace that feels right for you and revisit your goals together along the way. My work tends to be long-term, because real and lasting change often takes time, and I believe in staying the course with my clients rather than rushing the process. That said, many people begin to notice a meaningful shift within the first six weeks, which can itself be an encouraging sign that the work is taking root.

My sessions are weekly until you believe you’ve built the foundation to fly solo. When you’re ready, you’ll know it!

I am a private pay therapist and I am out of network with all insurance providers. I will obtain your credit card information before we begin sessions and charge you for your weekly sessions using the card on file. You can use a Flexible Savings Account or a Healthcare Savings Account if you have one. I provide my clients with a monthly superbill to submit to their insurance provider for reimbursement or application to the out of network deductible.
